I’d been putting off visiting Canada for quite a while, as I couldn’t think of a compelling enough reason to go, after all what could the country that gave us Nickelback possibly have to offer?
In the end I did some research and discovered ‘The Canadian’, a cross-country sleeper train that runs from Toronto to Vancouver in five days (and then back again), passing through Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia on the way. What could be better than seeing the sights of mid to Western Canada (especially the Rocky Mountains) from the comfort of your own luxury cabin on a train?
So here I am in Canada at last, driving a car around the Maritime Provinces of Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. What happened to the train, you might ask? Well it was so mind staggeringly expensive to catch the train, i.e. several times more expensive than my flights, car hire and hotels combined that I had to add it to my ‘post lottery win’ bucket list.
